Aromatherapy is an ancient practice of using certain aromatic fragrances to stimulate nerves within the nose. Those nerves reach the necessary part of the brain that controls certain functions.

The science of aromatherapy is the use of scented oils that come from varying parts of flowers, plants, and in some cases – bark! Each scent that’s used in aromatherapy has an underlying purpose.

Different scents treat different types of conditions within our bodies. Medical conditions aren’t immune from it. The aromatherapy isn’t a replacement of medical treatments, but is used to enhance and to work alongside them to help treat your ailments.

One condition that can be benefited from aromatherapy is certain types of allergies. The scent of choice for this condition is the Blue Tansy. It’s thought to have a powerful effect on the nervous system, which aids in the bronchia dilating process.

The Blue Tansy is also known to aid in pain management, because of the effect it has on the nervous system. It helps release nervous tension and stress, which can relax the body to a state of calmness.

Eucalyptus and pine scents are good for treating fatigue. They work by minimizing drowsiness and irritability, which can cause tiredness and lethargy. You’ll be able to think clearly and stay alert throughout the day.

Lemongrass and sage scents, which are also good for fatigue, are known to help some people with headaches. These scents calm the nervous system and relax your inner being, which will minimize the headache that won’t allow you to function.

Can you believe aromatherapy can even help you with acne issues? Cedarwood, lemon and sandalwood are effective scents that help to promote the body’s ability to control its hormonal balance as well as the oil production within the skin. They can also help relieve stress, which can cause outbreaks.

Aromatherapy is an excellent solution for those who are looking for alternative treatments to use in minor medical treatments. Aromatherapy could be used in candle form and in liquid oil form – just find which method works best for your personal preferences and keep note of which scents benefit you most.

Aromatherapy is a well-known treatment for various human conditions. It’s traditionally known to help people with mind and body ailments, but it’s gaining a reputation for its effectiveness on pets as well.

Pets, like humans, can suffer from many of the same medical conditions. Arthritis, for instance, is a painful condition that can affect a Chihuahua the same way it affects its 65-year old owner.

No one likes to see their pet suffer. It can be heartbreaking because to most pet owners, their four-legged friend is a part of the family. Aromatherapy can be the non-intrusive, affordable remedy you need to help your pet feel better.

While we may not be able to know the exact mindset of our pets, we do know that pets sometimes exhibit anxious feelings when they’re feeling scared, intimidated, or unsure of their surroundings.

These feelings can cause them to lose sleep and be on edge, often snapping at those they love. Some pets will “voice” their frustrations while others will be quiet, but their nervous conditions cause chunks of their fur to fall out. Aromatherapy can have a calming effect on your pet.

Hyper-activeness is another condition some pets may experience. Certain scents used to deliver a calming effect during aromatherapy can help calm your pet down to a certain degree and will work wonders when paired with positive training.

Some pets can benefit from adding aromatherapy to the medical treatments they’re receiving from their veterinarians. It sometimes helps the medical treatments work faster and may calm the animal down enough to have these treatments performed on them without extreme anxiety and fear.

Before starting an aromatherapy program on your pet, educate yourself thoroughly. While traditional aromatherapies are effective and safe for humans, not all are recommended for pets.

Animals can be sensitive to some aromas and the oils should be diluted before using this therapy on them. Consult your vet on which oils can be used and how much they should be diluted.

It’s also important to know that oils are the best form for use in pet aromatherapy. Candles can be easily knocked over by the pet and they may even try to lick the hot liquid from the candle.

Dried potpourri flowers aren’t recommended either, since the pet could try to eat them and they’re not good for their digestion. Oils are the best form, but they should be kept well away from the pet’s reach. Consult your vet before starting any aromatherapy program for your pets.

Aromatherapy is often used to help treat some minor conditions we face in our everyday lives. It’s been proven to be effective in many areas that are both physical and mental in their origin.

Different scents help with different conditions. Lavender is one of those scents that actually work for several types of conditions. It can induce romantic feelings for a couple. If you’re planning a nice evening at home with your significant other, add a little lavender scent to the mix and spice up your romantic rendezvous together. It gives you that extra little edge to make your evening a more memorable one.

Lavender is also a scent that helps enhance relaxation and calmness. The light, flowery scent gives almost instant relaxation to a tensed, stressed out mind and body. It’s perfect to help unwind after a hard day at work.

It can affect the nervous system in a positive way. Lavender encourages faster healing from ailments such as skin burns and wounds. It also helps heal various conditions from digestion problems to respiratory issues.

Lavender is a scent that can help relieve the toll insomnia can take on your body. Those who have problems getting to sleep and staying asleep tend to have mood swings from the irritability derived from not catching enough shut-eye.

Because it’s not known to cause allergies, Lavender’s sometimes used in nursing homes to calm agitation episodes and improve dementia conditions with some of the people who reside there. It’s known as a scent that most people will love – or at least tolerate well – so it can be used in situations like these without being too intrusive to the olfactory.

Lavender is a scent of choice when a person wants to alleviate symptoms of overall depression. It helps with the anxiousness, tensed feelings, stress, irritability, agitation and even enhances a more pleasant mood just by its aroma.

It comes in many different forms to use in your aromatherapy program. Some people use traditional candles to spread the scent around the room. There are also dried flowers that give off their natural scent, oils that can be simmered in potpourri pots and even oils that are placed in your bath water. You can also see it in hand creams, body spray and room air fresheners.

Reaching for Lavender will help you enjoy the instant perks it offers with its light, aromatic scent. You can combine it with other light scents and enjoy the medicinal effects of a pleasurable aromatherapy experience.

Aromatherapy has long been touted as a beneficial therapy for physical conditions. But it can also be good for your mental health as well. Extracting the scented oils from various plants, aromatherapy products permeate your body and mind to offer relaxing, healthful benefits that last.

Aromatherapy should never be used as a sole treatment to those conditions that go beyond a minor state. But it can complement traditional treatments prescribed by a professional in the mental health field to make them work more effectively.

Cinnamon and orange are scents that help list our energy levels and boost our moods. You might notice whenever you chew a piece of cinnamon gum or eat something citrus-based that it perks you up a bit. Use these in aromatherapy and you’ll have more than a 1-minute boost that chewing gum offers.

Bergamot and jasmine are other excellent choices to lift a gloomy mood. They work by minimizing anxious feelings that can control your mind and thought. When you allow these thoughts to take charge of your life, depression can take root.

These scents can have a calming effect on your body, which will relax your mind and alleviate depression symptoms. By combining some of these scents, you can eliminate irritable feelings that bring you down and achieve a more positive outlook on a consistent basis.

Chamomile and Ylang Ylang are two more stress-relieving scents you can use in aromatherapy. If you work in a stressful environment, you may want to have these two scents on hand for whenever chaos erupts and you need a quick calming effect.

Is your office in desperate need of a boost in productivity? You might want to slip in some aromatherapy based on Neroli and Nutmeg – two scents that help reduce stress and increase productivity.

Chamomile, Lavender and Petitgrain are scents that can be used to help treat insomnia. Insomnia, or the inability to sleep, can cause extreme irritability and even lead to physical health issues. These scents are known for their sedating abilities, which can result in a good night’s sleep.

Keep track of how different scents affect your mood and mindset and then use them around the house or in the office as needed. You can even find aromatherapy products for the car if you find driving on busy highways results in irritability or anxiety.

Linda has led a varied life, training in administration after leaving school, working in a number of towns, cities and countries. Linda joined the Army and worked with the Royal Signals in Communications for a while before returning to England on marriage and working for the BBC at Pebble Mill, Birmingham.

After a life-changing experience, Linda moved to Oakham, Rutland, for a while before returning to her native Cleveland on her own.

After meeting her partner, Philip, she decided to try an Aromatherapy massage course in order to help a condition suffered by Philip. The course opened up a whole new world in 1994 which started with a Body Massage Course, three Aromatherapy Courses, Anatomy & Physiology, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and Reiki. Linda now practises these therapies from her home in New Marske, Cleveland.

Linda’s latest course in May 2000 was a Trainer’s Workshop with Gill Edwards in the Lakes District at Rydal. Since then, Linda has been running her own Workshops e.g.
‘Stress Busting with Oils’; and ‘Control The Flow’ – an incontinence workshop using metaphysics, reflexology and exercises.

==================

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

Massage of the shoulders, neck, scalp and face,
with alternate firm and gentle movements.

This helps to alleviate anxiety and stress.

This type of massage originates in the Indian sub-continent, and is part of the Ayurvedic healing system, which has been in existence since about 2500BC – Ayurveda is Sanskrit for science of life. It was traditionally used by Indian women to maintain the health and condition of their hair.

Practitioners massage the shoulders, neck, scalp and face with alternate firm and gentle movements which relax the thin layer of muscle covering the head, improving blood flow, nourishing hair follicles and alleviating anxiety and stress. The physical benefits are obtained immediately with relaxation of the muscles and easing of tension. It will also relieve mental tiredness, promote clearer thinking, and give a higher level of alertness and concentration.

On a more subtle level the higher chakras, or energy levels, are points of focus throughout the treatment, enabling stagnant energy to be released whilst balancing the chakras (energy levels) and helping the body to work in a more harmonious and peaceful way. Many clients describe treatments as being most beneficial, and report a wonderful feeling of well being.

It is a useful massage to do in an office environment, where the treatment can be performed over clothing in 20 minutes without complicated procedures – an office chair is quite suitable. In fact Indian Head Massage can be done anywhere!

==================

REIKI

‘Reiki’ is a Japanese word meaning Universal life energy. It is an energy that flows through all living things, and a system of healing believed to be thousands of years old based on channelling the Divine Light.

Reiki was rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui via Sanskrit writings on Buddhism whilst Dr Usui was on a quest to discover how Jesus healed.
Reiki healing helps everybody in some way, but it is most effective if the client is open-minded and willing to accept healing. Reiki is also an excellent relaxation therapy and aids the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

During a Reiki treatment, the recipient is fully dressed and can either sit on an upright chair or lie on a therapy couch.

The Practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively on the client in a sequence of positions and acts as a channel, through which the energy flows directly to the client, bringing healing wherever it is most needed.

The Reiki Principles:

Just for today – do not anger

Just for today – do not worry

Honour your parents, teachers, and elders.

Earn your living honestly.

Show gratitude to every living thing.

Prices:

Your premises (radius of 10 miles) Sitting £10.00
Our premises in New Marske – Lying down £15.00

===============

REFLEXOLOGY

Balancing the body by massaging pressure points on the feet thus stimulating the bodies own natural healing processes.

Reflexology is a method for activating the healing powers of the body. It is both old and new. From ancient texts we know that the early Chinese, Japanese, Indians, Russians and Egyptians worked on the feet to promote good health.

North American Indian tribes knew the relationship between the reflex points and the internal organs of the body and used this knowledge to treat disease. It is still used in Indian reservations.

An American physiotherapist, Eunice Ingham, became interested in this method and used zone therapy work with her patients, she mapped the entire body onto the feet and discovered that an alternating pressure on the various points had therapeutic affects and so reflexology was born.
Reflexology reduces stress and induces deep relaxation, improves circulation, cleanses the body of toxins and impurities, balances the whole system and revitalizes energy.

Reflexology is preventative health care.
It unblocks the energy centres so that the body returns to its natural rhythms. With the energy flowing the body, mind and spirit are brought back into balance.

========================

AROMATHERAPY

The controlled use of essential oils to balance
and promote well-being of the body –
good for relaxation and aids stress management

Aromatherapy is a treatment designed to help the mind, body and spirit of the person by the controlled use of essential oils obtained from plants.

Aromatherapy has its roots in the most ancient healing practices of mankind used by the Egyptians, almost 3,000 years before Christ.
Essential oils can be introduced to the body via inhalation, baths, compresses or massage.

An aromatherapy massage is a very soothing and relaxing method of introducing the essential oils to the skin for absorption into the blood stream and improving circulation and lymph drainage.
Massage also soothes the mind and when the mind is at peace positive feelings like love, contentment, selflessness, etc. Are experienced Which encourage good health.

A blend of oils is mixed to suit the person being treated dependant on their physical and emotional condition at that time.

Treatments:

Face, neck, shoulders
Back
Full body

==========================

COUNSELLING

- Easily snap and shout at those around you at home and work

- Have a reduced sex drive?

- Sleep badly?

- Get lots of headaches?

- Fidget, bite your nails or fiddle with your hair?
