Linda has led a varied life, training in administration after leaving school, working in a number of towns, cities and countries. Linda joined the Army and worked with the Royal Signals in Communications for a while before returning to England on marriage and working for the BBC at Pebble Mill, Birmingham.

After a life-changing experience, Linda moved to Oakham, Rutland, for a while before returning to her native Cleveland on her own.

After meeting her partner, Philip, she decided to try an Aromatherapy massage course in order to help a condition suffered by Philip. The course opened up a whole new world in 1994 which started with a Body Massage Course, three Aromatherapy Courses, Anatomy & Physiology, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and Reiki. Linda now practises these therapies from her home in New Marske, Cleveland.

Linda’s latest course in May 2000 was a Trainer’s Workshop with Gill Edwards in the Lakes District at Rydal. Since then, Linda has been running her own Workshops e.g.
‘Stress Busting with Oils’; and ‘Control The Flow’ – an incontinence workshop using metaphysics, reflexology and exercises.

==================

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

Massage of the shoulders, neck, scalp and face,
with alternate firm and gentle movements.

This helps to alleviate anxiety and stress.

This type of massage originates in the Indian sub-continent, and is part of the Ayurvedic healing system, which has been in existence since about 2500BC – Ayurveda is Sanskrit for science of life. It was traditionally used by Indian women to maintain the health and condition of their hair.

Practitioners massage the shoulders, neck, scalp and face with alternate firm and gentle movements which relax the thin layer of muscle covering the head, improving blood flow, nourishing hair follicles and alleviating anxiety and stress. The physical benefits are obtained immediately with relaxation of the muscles and easing of tension. It will also relieve mental tiredness, promote clearer thinking, and give a higher level of alertness and concentration.

On a more subtle level the higher chakras, or energy levels, are points of focus throughout the treatment, enabling stagnant energy to be released whilst balancing the chakras (energy levels) and helping the body to work in a more harmonious and peaceful way. Many clients describe treatments as being most beneficial, and report a wonderful feeling of well being.

It is a useful massage to do in an office environment, where the treatment can be performed over clothing in 20 minutes without complicated procedures – an office chair is quite suitable. In fact Indian Head Massage can be done anywhere!

==================

REIKI

‘Reiki’ is a Japanese word meaning Universal life energy. It is an energy that flows through all living things, and a system of healing believed to be thousands of years old based on channelling the Divine Light.

Reiki was rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui via Sanskrit writings on Buddhism whilst Dr Usui was on a quest to discover how Jesus healed.
Reiki healing helps everybody in some way, but it is most effective if the client is open-minded and willing to accept healing. Reiki is also an excellent relaxation therapy and aids the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

During a Reiki treatment, the recipient is fully dressed and can either sit on an upright chair or lie on a therapy couch.

The Practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively on the client in a sequence of positions and acts as a channel, through which the energy flows directly to the client, bringing healing wherever it is most needed.

The Reiki Principles:

Just for today – do not anger

Just for today – do not worry

Honour your parents, teachers, and elders.

Earn your living honestly.

Show gratitude to every living thing.

Prices:

Your premises (radius of 10 miles) Sitting £10.00
Our premises in New Marske – Lying down £15.00

===============

REFLEXOLOGY

Balancing the body by massaging pressure points on the feet thus stimulating the bodies own natural healing processes.

Reflexology is a method for activating the healing powers of the body. It is both old and new. From ancient texts we know that the early Chinese, Japanese, Indians, Russians and Egyptians worked on the feet to promote good health.

North American Indian tribes knew the relationship between the reflex points and the internal organs of the body and used this knowledge to treat disease. It is still used in Indian reservations.

An American physiotherapist, Eunice Ingham, became interested in this method and used zone therapy work with her patients, she mapped the entire body onto the feet and discovered that an alternating pressure on the various points had therapeutic affects and so reflexology was born.
Reflexology reduces stress and induces deep relaxation, improves circulation, cleanses the body of toxins and impurities, balances the whole system and revitalizes energy.

Reflexology is preventative health care.
It unblocks the energy centres so that the body returns to its natural rhythms. With the energy flowing the body, mind and spirit are brought back into balance.

========================

AROMATHERAPY

The controlled use of essential oils to balance
and promote well-being of the body –
good for relaxation and aids stress management

Aromatherapy is a treatment designed to help the mind, body and spirit of the person by the controlled use of essential oils obtained from plants.

Aromatherapy has its roots in the most ancient healing practices of mankind used by the Egyptians, almost 3,000 years before Christ.
Essential oils can be introduced to the body via inhalation, baths, compresses or massage.

An aromatherapy massage is a very soothing and relaxing method of introducing the essential oils to the skin for absorption into the blood stream and improving circulation and lymph drainage.
Massage also soothes the mind and when the mind is at peace positive feelings like love, contentment, selflessness, etc. Are experienced Which encourage good health.

A blend of oils is mixed to suit the person being treated dependant on their physical and emotional condition at that time.

Treatments:

Face, neck, shoulders
Back
Full body

==========================

COUNSELLING

Are You Stressed?

- Often feel close to tears?

- Easily snap and shout at those around you at home and work

- Have a reduced sex drive?

- Sleep badly?

- Get lots of headaches?

- Fidget, bite your nails or fiddle with your hair?

- Find it hard to concentrate and impossible to make decisions?

- Find it increasingly hard just to talk to people?

- Eat when you are not hungry or skip meals altogether?

- Feel tired most of the time?

- Have panic attacks? Sweaty palms? Butterfly stomach?

- Think that your sense of humour has disappeared?

- Feel suspicious of others?

- Eat, drink or smoke more to help you through the most difficult days?

- Unable to relax without feeling guilty?

- Feel that you just cannot cope?

If you answer ‘yes’ to more than four of these questions, then the chances are that you are stressed and need to take action.

STRESS MANAGEMENT

- Eat regular and healthy meals, try to include B vitamins, Vitamin C, Zinc and Complex carbohydrates.

- Practise some form of relaxation technique such as yoga, meditation and deep breathing exercises.

- Avoid excessive amounts of caffeine, alcohol and tobacco.

- Try and get some fresh air every day.

- Do not overload yourself – try to concentrate on one thing at a time and if possible – delegate.

- Take regular exercise.

- Visit a qualified Aromatherapist.

- Take the phone off the hook and try a relaxing bath.

- Try a creative hobby.

- Face up to work or relationship problems and do something to resolve them.

- Learn to recognise your own threshold for stress, and do not push yourself past it.

- Take regular breaks.

- Consider having a pet; stroking an animal can help you to relax but remember – an animal is for life! If you cannot commit yourself to a pet try stroking a soft toy.

- Talk about your problems. A professional counsellor will be able to help you take an objective view of yourself, and put your problems into perspective. Counselling is often available through the Doctor’s surgery!

I am a qualified counsellor currently working with private clients and in GP surgeries and with experience of counselling in Universities and the voluntary sector.

I work with a broad range of issues including relationships, bereavement, loss, anxiety, depression, abuse, sexuality and coping with stress and change.

I am a Registered Associate of the British Association for Counselling and works within their Code of Ethics providing you with basic assurances and protection throughout your counselling.

Experience has shown me that counselling is effective in assisting people to take stock of their lives especially at difficult or challenging times.

Counselling provides a safe and trusting relationship with a trained and qualified person who will help you to explore and talk through any difficulties and challenging areas in your life.

Many people find that talking things through with someone who has been trained to listen and to support them leaves them less confused and better able to make the changes which may improve the quality of their lives. Doing this can help you understand yourself better and bring together feelings, thoughts and actions to open up new possibilities.

Please e-mail me (mike.day2@virgin.net) or phone me (0151 336 5342) for an appointment or an initial confidential discussion.
