Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a form of Oriental Bodywork Therapy based on the Traditional Eastern energetic and wholistic approach to medicine. The term Shiatsu means finger-pressure and it is of Japanese origin.

Shiatsu and Oriental Medicine view the person as a whole, not in parts. We add up the signs and symptoms to create a “big picture”, one which takes into consideration all aspects of a persons life. In other words, we treat the person, not the disease.

Our body is a healing mechanism and it is continually trying to create balance. Through our lifestyles (habits, traumas etc.), energetic blockages are created within the body which inhibit its proper functioning. Shiatsu Therapy is a means of finding and releasing these blockages, in turn, allowing the body to heal and balance quicker, easier and properly.

A Shiatsu treatment includes an assessment of the clients condition and the application of specific techniques for balancing the particular condition. Treatments vary because people vary. Each person is unique and each treatment is unique.

The treatment is, generally, administered over unrestrictive comfortable clothing within a calm, relaxed atmosphere.

Energetic blockages within the body are removed primarily through the use of palm and thumb pressure applied in specific areas, in a specific pattern.

The number of treatments required depends on the condition and some type of maintenance schedule is recommended

The treatment is very relaxing and rejuvenating. It is common to feel energized for weeks after a treatment. A better balanced body will have the energy it needs to perform at its best more of the time.
